A Fresh Start

I'm building my website. Again 😄

This is yet another attempt — previous versions were built on different platforms, in different configurations, with mixed results. This time I've gone with Grav CMS, and I'm hoping it's the right call.

Why am I coming back to my own website?

Lately, more and more people I know have been quitting social media or significantly cutting back their presence there. Not out of laziness — by choice. They say they're tired of algorithms, notifications, and counting likes. That they'd rather have one quiet corner of the internet that's truly theirs.

I get it. For a long time, that's exactly what the internet was — full of personal websites, blogs, places built for a specific reason, not dictated by a platform. Somewhere along the way, that got lost. Now I see people starting to come back to it — slow web, as someone already named it.

I want that kind of place too. A website that won't disappear if some service changes its terms of use. Where photos are displayed the way I want, not the way an algorithm happens to prefer. Where I can write at length if I feel like it, or keep it short if the topic calls for it.

I'll be posting photos here, accounts of walks and wanderings, maybe some notes on the species I photograph. And every now and then — something like this.

The site is still taking shape. I hope you'll like it.
